Apple has raised the prices of some AppleCare+ subscriptions for Mac and iPad devices in the United States, with monthly subscription costs increasing by 50 cents and annual subscriptions rising by about $5, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The increase applies only to new subscriptions, while current subscribers will continue paying previous prices without any change. The increases are expected to be rolled out in more countries in the coming period.

Under the new prices, the AppleCare+ subscription for the 13-inch MacBook Air has increased to $8 per month instead of $7.50, or $80 per year instead of $75.

This move comes less than a year after Apple raised prices for AppleCare+ subscriptions for iPhones by 50 cents per month, amid expectations of a new increase coinciding with the launch of new iPhones this September.

In contrast, Apple has not made any changes to the AppleCare One subscription, which provides coverage for up to three devices for $20 per month, with the option to add additional devices for $6 per month each.

The price increase for AppleCare+ coincided with a wave of price hikes for iPad and Mac devices, after Apple recently announced price increases for a number of its products, including Vision Pro, HomePod, and Apple TV 4K, due to the ongoing shortage of RAM and rising component costs.

The recent price increases for devices range from tens of dollars to thousands of dollars depending on the category. CEO Tim Cook attributed the decision to the ongoing memory component crisis, noting that Apple tried for some time to mitigate its impact on consumers, but the continued rise in costs made it unsustainable.

Observers believe that raising prices for after-sales services such as AppleCare+ may help the company offset part of the continued increase in manufacturing costs, while Apple has not yet raised iPhone prices, amid expectations that current pressures will lead to price increases for the next generation of iPhone Pro models.
