Biggest Price Hike: Expected Prices for iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max
iPhone 18 Pro | Apple is set to raise the prices of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max by up to $200, according to new forecasts from market research firm IDC.
Apple is set to raise the prices of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max by up to $200, according to new forecasts from market research firm IDC, due to rising electronic component costs and the global memory crisis.
IDC had previously predicted a $100 increase for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, compared to $50 for the base models, but Apple's recent price hikes on Mac and iPad devices, reaching up to $300 for some versions, prompted the firm to revise its estimates.
The company stated that the significant price increases on Mac and iPad devices suggest that the upcoming iPhone 18 may see a larger hike than expected, predicting a $200 increase for the Pro and Pro Max models, and noting that the era of modest $50 increases may be over.
Prices Starting at $1,250
If these forecasts hold true, the iPhone 18 Pro could start at $1,250, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max could start at $1,350, depending on storage capacity and model.
The report attributes this potential increase to the global rise in memory costs due to supply shortages, along with expectations that both phones will feature 12GB of RAM—a capacity that has already raised prices on some recent iPad models by $150 to $200.
Foldable iPhone Priced Up to $3,000
IDC also expects Apple to launch its first foldable iPhone within the current year, with an average price of around $2,500, while higher storage versions could reach $3,000.
IDC believes that the foldable phone—as a premium product—could help Apple absorb some of the high component costs, potentially limiting the need for larger price increases on other iPhone models.
Installment Plans Mitigate Price Hike Impact
The price hike is unlikely to significantly affect the upgrade rate, as IDC estimates that 54% of iPhones shipped since 2022 will need to be upgraded to take advantage of the new AI-powered Siri features.
IDC also notes that Pro Max buyers are less price-sensitive, and the widespread use of installment plans makes the increase less impactful; a $200 hike amounts to about $5 per month when spread over 36 months.
