Content Looking for Its Writer
تتوسع ظاهرة كتابة المحتوى في الخليج، حيث يقدم كتاب الظل خدماتهم للباحثين والشركات، لكنهم يواجهون عقبات مثل غموض متطلبات العملاء وغياب التقدير.
Since ancient times, we have heard stories of poets selling their poems, and some even writing a poem from scratch upon someone's request, and so on. The trade of knowledge has continued in our present era with researchers who write complete master's and doctoral theses for clients, receiving a sum of money in return. Some libraries even employ people to write research papers and assignments for male and female students exactly as the teacher or professor wants.
And there are many other such stories we see before us, opening doors of livelihood for researchers, language editors, substitute ghostwriters, and other penmen under various titles who are active in diverse writing fields, providing literary assistance to many who offer them financial rewards in appreciation of their efforts in making their academic university theses successful, publishing their cultural books to the public, achieving academic excellence, or highlighting their marketing products and raising the market value of their enterprises, among other benefits provided by these "ghosts" who love to remain in the shadows behind the scenes to keep their business profitable and ongoing.
So-called "content writing" has become widespread in the last ten years due to the importance of having a visual identity for enterprises and the necessity for companies to be present on social media platforms to reach all customers.
Marketing has become of great importance in these companies, starting with attention to public relations, the marketing brochure, the quality of varied publishing across different social media platforms, identifying the target audience, pre-sale, during-sale, and after-sale services, suggested hashtags, inspiring marketing slogans, scenarios for National Day, Founding Day, Flag Day, and other annual occasions,
and other details that begin with writing the idea and end with writing everything from the smallest to the largest details, which led to the establishment and spread of many content writing companies in the Gulf countries, some of which have become responsible for writing local content for huge projects.
This widespread growth has been met by a proliferation of male and female ghostwriters working freelance for various reasons, perhaps including not getting a job in these companies, or their desire for personal freelance work in the writing trade for reasons of their own. They set up their own offices in their homes, open their own pages on social media, and begin searching for clients with whom they embark on the writing journey with great passion.
Despite their love for writing and dedication to the pen's journey, there are some challenges they face with clients, including, for example, the client who comes to the content writer without knowing what they want! No matter what is written for them, they will not be satisfied because they lack a compass.
There is also the client who gives the writer bullet points for an urgent project and then disappears, leaving the matter to the "ghostwriter's intuition"! The writer remains bewildered and sleepless until even the keyboard, desk, and laptop are bewildered with them. To save time, they try to decipher the incomplete idea they received, hoping to complete half of its due with a text that the client will wake up to the next day and accept.
If the result is not satisfactory, there are more back-and-forth journeys filled with repetition, deletion, modification, and addition, or perhaps rewriting the entire work from scratch! When the writer discusses it with the client, they find no acceptable justification! It is the client's confusion that makes the writer hit a wall, hoping only that the project ends peacefully with everyone's rights preserved and the writer's effort appreciated.
As for the client who judges the work without carefully reviewing it, this client causes high blood pressure, diabetes, headaches, and all the miseries of life. Strangely, they have incredible self-confidence until they are surprised that what they asked to be added was already in the text they did not review!
Then there is the client to whom applies the Quranic verse {And do not deprive people of their due} (Hud: 86), who believes that fast writing and quick delivery justify underpaying the writer! They do not know that writing—like other fields and professions—is a cumulative process over the years, and its expertise contributes to completing some writing quickly, which does not exempt them from giving the writer their full due.
We conclude with the understanding client to whom the folk proverb applies: "Give the baker his bread, even if he eats half of it." They leave the specialists to their specialty, only asking to apply some ideas, directions, and concepts (the editorial line) in the required texts, then leave the writer with the thread and needle, as they say, to proceed with completing the writing dish, and excel in savoring the narrative of the text until its literary maturity is complete, presenting it on a pen platter to the wonderful, distinguished client.
