The International Center for AI Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), in collaboration with UNESCO and the International Research Center on AI (IRCAI), announced the opening of submissions for the research workshop accompanying the 2026 Global Forum on AI Ethics, which will be hosted by the Kingdom in Riyadh from 14 to 17 September 2026, in a step aimed at enhancing international scientific participation and enriching global dialogue on AI ethics and governance. The center explained that submissions are available through two main tracks: the first for submitting scientific research abstracts, and the second for proposing discussion sessions, with the participation of researchers, academics, practitioners, policymakers, and students from around the world. This call coincides with the fifth anniversary of the adoption of UNESCO's recommendation on AI ethics, which is the only globally agreed standard reference in this field.

The center stated that scientific contributions can include, but are not limited to, a number of themes, most notably: the practical implementation of UNESCO's recommendation in various countries and contexts, including its tools such as the Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM) and the Ethical Impact Assessment (EIA); the role of international, multilateral cooperation and partnerships in building coherent and comprehensive AI governance; mechanisms for activating ethical values and principles in the design, development, deployment, and governance of AI systems; the alignment of policy areas outlined in the recommendation with modern technical changes in the fields of environment, culture, education, health, communication, and information; in addition to future visions and foresight approaches for the future of AI ethical governance. The center noted that all submissions will undergo peer review, and the best research papers will have the opportunity to be published in a special issue of the Journal of AI for Sustainable Development (JAISD). The center set July 18, 2026 as the deadline for receiving abstracts and session proposals. The research workshop will be held on September 14, 2026 as part of the Global Forum on AI Ethics, and the proceedings and accepted abstracts will be published on October 31, 2026.
