Meta announced the launch of Muse Image, the first AI image generation model developed by its Superintelligence Labs unit.

The model is set to be integrated into the image creation tools in the Meta AI app, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and will soon arrive on Facebook and Messenger.

Muse Image is part of the new Muse family of models that Meta intends to rely on instead of the Llama series, as part of its plans to develop a new generation of AI technologies.

Alexander Wang, head of Meta's Superintelligence Labs, explained that the model has "agentic" capabilities, working in integration with the large language model Muse Spark to understand user requests, search the web, and plan before generating the image, thus enhancing the accuracy and quality of results.

He added that the company is also preparing to launch Muse Video for generating videos, noting that it achieves strong performance in adherence to text prompts, image quality, and maintaining consistency between frames.

One of the standout features of Muse Image is the ability to mention other Instagram accounts using the '@' symbol within image generation prompts, allowing the model to leverage public photos from those accounts to build a visual representation of their owners within the generated results.

Meta emphasized that users retain control over how their public photos are used in AI tools through the platform's privacy settings.

The model also allows image transformation based on ready-made suggestions, creation of designs such as invitation cards and postcards, as well as room redesign using photos taken from Facebook Marketplace or other websites.

The model supports direct image editing by drawing on top of it to add or remove elements, and then sharing the result through posts, stories, or chats within Meta's apps.

The company also announced that Muse Image will power 30 new AI effects in Instagram Stories, first in the United States, with the feature later expanding to more countries and other Meta apps.
