Oppo is developing a foldable phone with a wider screen and a massive battery
New leaks indicate that Oppo is developing a new foldable phone with a wide design (Wide Foldable), in a move that appears to be a response to the trend adopted by major companies such as Samsung, amid rumors that Apple is also preparing to enter this field.
According to the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station on the Weibo platform, the new phone will feature a shorter and wider design than traditional foldable phones, similar to what is rumored about the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which may provide a better experience when watching videos, browsing the internet, and playing games.
Flagship Processor and Massive Battery
According to the leak, the phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 processor, which has not been officially announced yet, and carries model number SM8950, according to a report published by PhoneArena and reviewed by Al Arabiya Business.
The phone is also expected to include a dedicated AI accelerator to process AI models locally on the device, enhancing the performance of AI-dependent tasks without the need for constant cloud connectivity.
Among the most notable expected specs is a battery capacity of approximately 6500 mAh, likely based on silicon-carbon technology, which allows for large capacities while maintaining a slim design, a growing trend in Chinese flagship phones.
Possible Launch in 2027
The report indicates that the phone may see the light during the first quarter of 2027, but it did not reveal any additional details regarding screen sizes, cameras, or device dimensions.
Nevertheless, observers expect Oppo to adopt the latest technologies it introduced in the Find N series, which received widespread praise for its design and user experience.
Could it be named Find N7?
The commercial name of the phone is not yet clear, but expectations suggest it may be released as the OPPO Find N7, or perhaps under a new name if the company decides to adopt a different identity with a change in foldable phone design.
Not the First Time
Although the wide design seems like a new trend in the market, Oppo has previously introduced foldable phones with dimensions close to this concept, such as the Find N and Find N2, which featured an aspect ratio closer to square compared to competitors.
In contrast, Samsung in its first generations of Galaxy Z Fold phones adopted a tall and narrow design, while leaks indicate that the next generation will also move towards a wider screen to improve the user experience.
Why are companies moving towards wide design?
Observers believe that foldable phones with wider screens may offer a better experience for watching content, multitasking, web browsing, and gaming, especially since most apps and videos are designed to work on screens that are wider rather than taller.
Nevertheless, this category still needs to prove its viability in practice, as daily use and the software improvements that companies provide will determine the success of this new design among users.
