Qatar Participates in Pax Silica Summit in Washington

Doha, June 27 (QNA) - The State of Qatar participated in the Pax Silica Summit, held recently in the U.S. capital, Washington, which saw the participation of member states of the Pax Silica initiative.

Qatar was represented at the summit by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Sayed, Minister of State for Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

A statement from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry today indicated that the first day of the summit was dedicated to discussing topics related to industry and companies, while the second day focused on governmental issues and ways to enhance cooperation among member states.

During his participation in the summit, His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Trade signed the joint statement on Artificial Intelligence opportunities between the State of Qatar and the United States of America, which serves as an annex to the Pax Silica Declaration signed in January of this year.

On the sidelines of the summit, His Excellency held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of senior officials participating in the summit. He met with His Excellency Mr. Jaslan Madiyev, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of AI and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan; His Excellency Mr. Saeed Al-Hajri, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; His Excellency Mr. Jacob Helberg, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs; His Excellency Mr. Severino S. Rodolfo, Undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry for Industry Development of the Republic of the Philippines; His Excellency Mr. Zheng Kai Fong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Digital Development and Information of the Republic of Singapore; Mr. David Copley, Senior Director for Global Supply Chains at the White House; and Mr. Ben Black, CEO of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation.

The meetings reviewed ways to enhance trade and investment relations, expand horizons for economic cooperation and policy coordination, discuss opportunities in the field of artificial intelligence, facilitate trade exchange, and support partnerships between business communities, thereby contributing to the achievement of common interests.

His Excellency also met with a number of representatives of global companies, during which investment opportunities available in the State of Qatar were reviewed, and opportunities for cooperation in priority sectors were discussed, particularly artificial intelligence, advanced technology, the digital economy, and supply chains.

It is noteworthy that the State of Qatar and the United States of America signed the Pax Silica Declaration in January of this year, as a strategic step aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of advanced technology and supply chain security, and supporting global economic stability and security, thereby strengthening the partnership between the two countries and contributing to building a more resilient and sustainable economic system.
