Samsung announced on Thursday the launch of its Samsung Health Monitor app in South Korea, after it was approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety earlier this year.

The Korean tech giant said in a statement: 'As of today, users of the Galaxy Watch Active2 in Korea can access the Samsung Health Monitor app.'

Samsung explained that to monitor blood pressure with the Galaxy Watch Active2, users will first need to calibrate. After that, they can tap the 'Measure' option anytime and anywhere by analyzing pulse wave signals via the watch's wrist sensors. The app analyzes the relationship between the calibration value and blood pressure changes to determine blood pressure.

When measuring blood pressure with the Galaxy Watch Active2, the measurement results can be synced with the Samsung Health Monitor app on Samsung Galaxy phones. Users can also track blood pressure by day, week, or month, and choose to share this information with their doctor for review or consultation.

Samsung also said it plans to support ECG (electrocardiogram) tracking in the Samsung Health Monitor app in South Korea during the third quarter of this year.

For now, to measure blood pressure, users need to install the Samsung Health Monitor app on both their Galaxy Watch Active2 and their Galaxy phone.

The health app can be automatically installed on the watch by updating the watch software to the latest version via the Galaxy Wearable app. The smartwatch app on the phone will then open a link directing users to the app download page on the smartphone via the Galaxy Store.
