For a long time, the multi-device feature in WhatsApp was discontinued, which allowed users to use the app on three devices simultaneously, but none of them could be a smartphone. However, this may change soon.

According to a recent report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a new companion mode – a feature described as "multi-device 2.0" that was recently spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.22.15.1.

When using companion mode, you will be able to link another mobile phone to your WhatsApp account, and you know the best part? You don't need an active internet connection on your primary phone to send messages using the linked phone.

The feature may work similarly to how WhatsApp Web works, where the chat will be securely copied to the secondary phone, and the process may take some time, as it does when using web or desktop companion.
