Considering that the operating system is the main component, it's no secret that operating systems will take up a significant amount of storage space on your computers. But the good news is that if you are looking to install Windows 10 on your devices, you will certainly be happy to know that its installation size is smaller than its predecessor Windows 8.

Microsoft mentioned on its official blog that thanks to a new compression algorithm in Windows 10, you will be able to save an additional 1.5 GB on 32-bit devices and 2.6 GB on 64-bit devices.

This compares to Windows 10, where Microsoft recommended providing 16 GB for 32-bit devices and 20 GB for 64-bit devices. And granting users 1.5 GB and 2.6 GB are still significant, respectable amounts, and will certainly be welcomed by most users.

It also appears that Microsoft's new compression algorithm will extend to smartphones, as even phones running Windows 10 will be able to get some extra storage space.

Microsoft also revealed that it has improved the Windows recovery tool, which will be able to save up to 12 GB depending on the manufacturer.
