Meteorology: Heat wave up to 50°C in Eastern Province

The National Center of Meteorology warned today of a heat wave in the Eastern Province reaching 49-50°C, affecting the cities of Dammam and Dhahran, and the governorates of Al-Khafji, Al-Nuayriyah, Qaryat al-Ulya, Jubail, Ras Tanura, Qatif, Khobar, Buqayq, Al-Id, Dha'balutn, Al-Ahsa, and their affiliated villages and centers.

The center stated that this condition will continue until 5 pm.

On the other hand, the National Center of Meteorology expected in its report on today's weather (Thursday) moderate to heavy thunderstorms leading to torrential rain accompanied by hail in parts of Jazan and Asir regions, and light to moderate in parts of Makkah, Al-Baha, and Najran regions, while the active winds raising dust and sand continue to affect parts of those areas, as well as parts of Madinah, Riyadh, Eastern Province, Northern Borders, and Al-Jouf regions, and maximum temperatures continue to rise in the east and parts of central Kingdom.

The report indicated that surface wind movement over the Red Sea is northwesterly to westerly at 10-32 km/h in the northern part, and southwesterly to westerly at 10-25 km/h in the central and southern parts, reaching 50 km/h with the formation of rainy thunderclouds in the southern part. Wave height ranges from half a meter to one and a half meters in the northern part, and from half a meter to one meter in the central and southern parts, exceeding two and a half meters with the formation of rainy thunderclouds in the southern part. Sea state is light to moderate waves in the northern part, light waves in the central and southern parts, becoming rough with the formation of rainy thunderclouds in the southern part.

Meanwhile, surface wind movement over the Arabian Gulf will be northwesterly to northeasterly at 15-30 km/h, wave height from half a meter to one and a half meters, and sea state light to moderate waves.
