Four people were killed on Saturday by lightning strikes in Hajjah province, most of which is under the control of the Houthi group, in northwestern Yemen.

This came in a statement published by the Security Media Center, affiliated with the Interior Ministry in the Houthi government, which is not internationally recognized.

The statement explained that a lightning bolt struck a house in the Bani al-Qadami area of Bani al-Awwam district in Hajjah province, killing the head of the family (35), his wife (32), and their daughter (6) while they were inside their home.

It also noted that a 38-year-old woman died in a separate incident after being struck by lightning while inside her home in the same village.

The statement quoted the Houthi-affiliated police in Hajjah province as calling on citizens to follow safety instructions and take necessary precautions during the rainy season to ensure their safety and that of their families.

Since March 2026, Yemen has been experiencing intermittent heavy rains that have resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, according to Anadolu correspondent monitoring official sources.

Yemen suffers from severely weak infrastructure, causing flash floods to worsen the tragedy of the population, who complain of fragile basic services due to the repercussions of a war that has been ongoing for about 12 years between forces loyal to the legitimate government and the Houthi group.
