North Korean state media reported Sunday that leader Kim Jong Un oversaw this week's testing of weapons for the naval destroyer 'Kang Kun,' which weighs 5,000 tons, including cruise missile launches and the use of 'electronic warfare means.'

It is noted that this warship is the same one that partially capsized in the water last year during its launch, before being later repaired.

The official Korean Central News Agency reported that the tests were conducted on Friday, less than two weeks after another 5,000-ton destroyer, 'Choe Hyon,' entered service.

Kim had pledged during the launch ceremony of 'Choe Hyon' to equip his navy with nuclear weapons and develop new warships weighing 10,000 tons.

After testing its weapons on Friday, Kim ordered the destroyer 'Kang Kun' to be put into naval service within two months, according to the agency.

Photos released by the agency showed Kim surrounded by officials watching the tests from a coastal observation point.

North Korea, the isolated nuclear state, remains technically at war with its southern neighbor, as the 1950-1953 war ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty.

The South Korean navy operates more than 10 ships exceeding 5,000 tons, compared to just two for North Korea.

While Kim again stressed the need to accelerate the strengthening of North Korea's 'war deterrent,' he reaffirmed his determination to possess 'absolute power,' according to the agency.
