Authorities in the Aragon region of northeastern Spain announced that forest fires raging for two days have burned more than 12,000 hectares, warning that the risk of the flames spreading continues under difficult weather conditions.
Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, the head of security affairs in the Aragon government, said that last night was extremely difficult, noting that initial estimates indicate the affected area exceeds 12,000 hectares.

The expansion of the fire coincided with a heatwave that hit the region in recent days, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius. In the south of the country, Spain is still facing another fire that broke out last week in the Andalusia region, which has killed 13 people, including seven Britons and an American, and burned about 7,000 hectares of land.
