Diplomatic sources reported on Friday that European NATO member states and Canada will pledge, on the sidelines of the alliance's summit to be held in Ankara on Wednesday, to provide military aid to Ukraine worth 70 billion euros annually in both 2026 and 2027.

This amount includes the military aid that the European Union has pledged to provide to Ukraine under a loan worth 60 billion euros, divided equally between 2026 and 2027.

Military aid to Ukraine

The sources explained that the share of new military aid pledged by European NATO countries and Canada amounts to about 40 billion in 2026 and a similar amount in the next year.

This amount is equivalent to NATO's previous commitment made before the alliance's summit in Washington in 2024, but at that time it included the U.S. contribution.

Military support for Kyiv

This time, the Europeans and Canadians alone are providing military aid to Ukraine, as the United States has decided to halt funding for military support to Kyiv since Donald Trump's return to the White House. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to arrive in Ankara next week, where he will attend a working dinner on Tuesday, but he will not participate in the summit itself scheduled for Wednesday morning.
