The red fox, famously known as ‘Abu Husain,’ holds a special place in Arab folk tradition, as it plays an important environmental role by helping regulate rodent populations and other creatures, supporting ecological balance and enhancing biodiversity.
It is the largest species of wild fox in the Kingdom, belonging to the canid family, and is distinguished by its ability to adapt to diverse environments including deserts, plains, and valleys, making it one of the most prominent carnivorous mammals in the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve, and the most widespread. The red fox feeds on rodents, reptiles, and insects, in addition to some wild fruits, giving it a high ability to adapt to varying food sources in natural environments. It possesses advanced senses that help it hunt, as it relies on sharp eyesight, hearing, and monitoring the movement of small prey.
