The leader of the Alternative for Germany party, Tino Chrupalla, launched a sharp attack on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over his government's approach during a session of the German parliament.

It is worth noting that the AfD, which holds the second-largest bloc in the German parliament after the Christian Union bloc led by Merz, currently tops all opinion polls with the highest approval among German voters, leading the Christian Union by an average of five percentage points.

Addressing Chancellor Merz, the leader of Germany's largest opposition party said, 'The cost of failure rises day by day as long as you hold the office of chancellor.'

Chrupalla accused Merz and the government of moving too slowly in implementing reforms, saying, 'In the end, you are hindering economic and social progress, and the Christian Union continues to entrench itself behind the so-called firewall.' He thus reiterated his party's accusation that Merz and the Christian Union are appropriating the issues raised by the AfD.

Chrupalla criticized the rising debt in the federal budget, the burdens from planned reforms, especially in the healthcare sector, as well as cuts to parental allowance. He said the government 'prefers to invest in tanks instead of children,' adding: 'You are celebrating—literally—your arms mania.'
