Algerian Interior Minister Said Saaid said today (Thursday) that 'all fires that posed a threat to people and property have been brought under control, with only limited hot spots remaining' that response teams are working to extinguish. Saaid affirmed in a press statement carried by the German News Agency, during his visit to Tlemcen province to offer condolences for the death of a fire victim in the town of Ouled Mimoun, that the field situation is 'noticeably improving' compared to previous days. He revealed that Algeria recorded more than 160 fires from Thursday to last Saturday across several provinces, some affecting more than half of their municipalities, emphasizing that the situation 'has been brought under control thanks to the full mobilization of civil protection services, the army, various security forces, as well as the effective contribution of citizens.' The Algerian official also mentioned the mobilization of an aerial fleet of about 18 aircraft, including 12 aircraft dedicated to firefighting, in addition to two large military aircraft and a number of helicopters belonging to both the army and civil protection, which enhanced the effectiveness of field interventions.

Saaid noted that President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, ordered the formation of committees to inventory all damages and losses suffered by citizens, in preparation for starting compensation operations.
