(CNN) -- US President Donald Trump warned Iran Wednesday that retaliatory attacks will get worse if it continues targeting ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said on his Truth Social platform: 'This is in response to Iran's bombing of ships, and if it happens again, the situation will be much worse,' after US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced strikes against Iran.

Alongside the warning, Trump posted an image of a violent scene that appeared to be AI-generated, showing a huge column of smoke rising above two buildings with a brightly lit city background.

The user who originally posted the image later deleted it, adding: 'I just checked, and this image is not from tonight, this is my mistake, and I take responsibility.'

This warning came after Trump shared 3 videos apparently showing damage from the strikes, although he did not specify where or when they were taken.

CNN has not independently verified the videos' authenticity and could not determine the geographic location of one of them.

CNN has contacted the White House for information about the videos' content.
