Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Sunday published a condolence message on the death of former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Araghchi said in a message posted on his account on the American company X platform that he received news of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's death with "deep sorrow."
The Iranian foreign minister added: "With great sadness and deep regret, we received news of the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani."
He continued: "We extend our warmest condolences to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to the Al Thani family, and to the brotherly Qatari people. We ask God to envelop the deceased in His vast mercy and to grant his family patience and solace."
Qatar announced on Sunday morning the death of its former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at the age of 74.
In 1995, Sheikh Hamad assumed power, and on June 25, 2013, he handed over the reins of government to his then-crown prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the current Emir of Qatar.
