China raises flood warning to highest level in Guangxi and Guangdong
Chinese authorities raised the flood warning level to red, the highest warning level, in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Guangdong Province in southern China, as heavy rains continue and river levels rise.
The regional meteorological center stated that water levels at 70 monitoring stations on 55 rivers in Guangxi exceeded warning levels, with differences ranging from 0.01 meters to 7.46 meters, warning that they would continue to rise in the next 24 hours.
In Guangdong Province, the inflow of water from upstream caused the water level of the Xijiang River to rise, prompting authorities to issue a red alert for the section passing through Fengkai County in Zhaoqing City, in anticipation of further flooding.
Local authorities announced yesterday that two people died and about 55,000 people were affected by heavy rains and floods in Nanning City, Guangxi, in addition to the evacuation of 48,000 people from affected areas.
In a related context, a landslide occurred in Nanhe Town, Gansu Province, northwest China, resulting in 16 people missing, while rescue teams managed to save 17 others, with search operations continuing in the area.
