Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty affirmed to his Iranian and Omani counterparts the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.

This came during two phone calls made by Abdelatty with Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, and Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, as part of ongoing consultations on developments in regional situations, efforts to de-escalate and restore security and stability in the region, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The two calls addressed efforts to advance the path of calm and de-escalation. Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of an immediate halt to all military and escalatory actions, and prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions, which would help contain the rising tensions, prevent the conflict from expanding, enhance regional security and stability, and spare the peoples of the region further escalation.

The Egyptian minister stressed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea as a fundamental pillar for regional security and stability, and for protecting international trade and global supply chains. He affirmed the need to avoid any measures that could threaten the security of navigational passages or expose them to risks, in order to preserve the interests of all countries in the region and the global economy.
