US Official: Washington Increases Number of Strikes on Second Day of Iran Bombing
A US official says Washington is increasing the number of strikes against Iran on the second day of operations, as new strikes target the Strait of Hormuz and Iran reports explosions near key ports.
A US official who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said Wednesday that the ongoing US strikes against Iran will be more numerous than those carried out on Tuesday.
The US Central Command earlier Wednesday said it is launching new strikes on Iran aimed at keeping the vital Strait of Hormuz open to navigation.
Earlier, the US military announced Wednesday evening that it had carried out new strikes on Iran aimed at keeping the vital Strait of Hormuz open to navigation, hours after President Donald Trump declared that the interim agreement to end the war with Iran had 'ended'.
US Central Command said in a post on X announcing a new round of strikes on Wednesday: 'Based on the direction of the commander-in-chief, US Central Command forces have begun conducting additional strikes on Iran to further degrade its ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.'
Central Command added: 'The United States holds Iran responsible for the recent unprovoked aggression against commercial vessels and their civilian crews sailing freely in a vital international waterway.'
For its part, Iran's Mehr news agency reported hearing an explosion near Konarak and Chabahar, noting that air defenses are engaged in countering 'hostile targets' near Bandar Abbas.
Axios reported earlier, citing a US official, that the military is conducting its latest raids on Iran, hours after President Donald Trump declared that the interim agreement to stop the war with Iran had 'ended'.
