Beijing, July 17 (QNA) - Chinese President Xi Jinping today announced the establishment of the Global Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, stressing the importance of addressing the challenges associated with the rapid development of this technology.

Xi said, during a speech at the opening of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference 2026 and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai, that the world is witnessing an unprecedented stage of innovation in artificial intelligence technologies, which offers broad opportunities and poses new challenges in the field of governance.

He noted that the international community faces questions about how to achieve coexistence between humans and thinking machines, ensure security as algorithms participate in decision-making processes, address ethical issues posed by these technologies, and bridge the digital divide to ensure broader benefits from artificial intelligence.

The Chinese president affirmed that these challenges require joint thinking and efforts from all countries of the world to establish appropriate governance frameworks for artificial intelligence.

It is noted that the conference activities are held under the motto "Smart Partners, Creating the Future Together" and will continue until July 20.
