Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemns Colombia's move to open embassy in occupied Jerusalem
Jeddah, July 16 (QNA) - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressed its strong condemnation of the agreement reported by media regarding Colombia's intention to open an embassy in the occupied city of Jerusalem. The OIC General Secretariat said in a statement that this step represents a regrettable retreat from Colombia's historical positions supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and would harm the relations and common interests between Colombia and the OIC member states, in line with its resolutions. It affirmed its rejection of this illegal step as it constitutes a flagrant violation of United Nations resolutions, especially Security Council resolutions 476 and 478, which affirm that any Israeli measures aimed at changing the character of the city of Jerusalem or its legal and demographic status are null and void, and call on states to withdraw their diplomatic missions from the holy city. The OIC called on the government of Colombia to reverse this illegal decision, support international efforts to achieve peace based on the two-state solution, and adhere to its responsibilities under the UN Charter and relevant resolutions.
