Saudi Arabia's Bahri: Tanker Wadyan in Safe Condition and Seaworthy After Incident in Strait of Hormuz
The Saudi National Shipping Company (Bahri) confirmed that the supertanker Wadyan was involved in an incident while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, and all crew members are safe.
The Saudi National Shipping Company (Bahri) confirmed that the supertanker 'Wadyan' was involved in an incident while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, stressing that all crew members are safe and that the vessel remains in a safe condition and is seaworthy.
The company said in a statement that the tanker, bearing the international number (IMO: 9524970), was involved in the incident on July 7, confirming that no injuries were recorded among crew members and workers on board after verifying everyone's safety.
Bahri added that it notified the relevant authorities immediately after the incident and continues to coordinate with various relevant parties, along with continuous follow-up with the tanker's crew to monitor developments.
The company stressed that the safety of workers, protection of the marine environment, and safe management of its fleet are its priorities, affirming its continued commitment to operating its tankers according to the highest safety and reliability standards.
The incident comes at a time when navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is under close monitoring, as it is one of the most important global maritime passages for oil transport and international trade.
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia condemned in the strongest terms Iran's targeting of the Saudi tanker 'Wadyan' and the Qatari tanker 'Al Rakyat' during their transit of the Strait of Hormuz, noting that these rejected attacks are an assault on the security and safety of international navigation and on the security of global energy supplies.
A statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that Iran's continued perpetration of these attacks constitutes a grave violation of international law and norms, and of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which guarantees freedom of maritime navigation and safe passage through sea lanes.
Saudi Arabia stressed its demand that Iran immediately cease all actions that threaten regional security, the safety of international navigation, and energy supplies, affirming that Tehran bears full responsibility for these attacks and all their damages and repercussions.
For his part, Jassim Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, expressed his strongest condemnation and denunciation of Iran's targeting of the tanker 'Wadyan', affirming that this criminal attack represents a blatant violation of international law and the rules of safety for international sea lanes.
Al-Budaiwi indicated that this attack reflects the continued hostile and provocative approach pursued by Iran, and its insistence on destabilizing regional security, undermining global energy security, and threatening international trade movement, in flagrant defiance of all international laws, norms, and agreements.
The Secretary-General stressed in a statement on Tuesday the full solidarity of the GCC states with Saudi Arabia and their support for all measures it takes to protect and preserve its national interests.
In the same context, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned on Tuesday the Iranian Deputy Ambassador to the state, Mohsen Qaani, and handed him a protest note expressing its strong condemnation and denunciation of the targeting of the tanker 'Al Rakyat' during its transit near the Strait of Hormuz.
The note, handed over by Ibrahim Fakhro, Director of the Protocol Department at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to Mohsen Qaani, affirmed that this attack constitutes a serious violation of the safety of international navigation, a direct threat to the security of global energy supplies, and a clear and explicit breach of international law.
The note included Qatar's categorical rejection of this attack and what it represents as an infringement on the security of international navigation and regional stability, demanding that Iran immediately cease any practices that affect regional security and stop endangering the safety of international navigation and global energy supplies.
The note stressed that Qatar reserves all its rights to take whatever it deems appropriate under international law to protect its interests and capabilities, calling on Iran to provide urgent clarifications regarding this targeting, take immediate measures to prevent its recurrence, and fully comply with relevant international law.
Arab and Gulf states also condemned Iran's targeting of a Saudi oil tanker and a Qatari gas tanker that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that these attacks threaten the safety and security of international navigation.
