ICC member states voted on Friday to dismiss Karim Khan from his post as prosecutor amid allegations of sexual misconduct, according to two diplomatic sources who told Reuters that 82 of the 125 member states supported the dismissal.

The vote took place during a meeting of representatives of the court's 125 member states at the United Nations headquarters in New York to consider whether to keep Karim Khan in his post or dismiss him permanently.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter, said the vote ended with 82 countries supporting the prosecutor's dismissal, while Khan denies the allegations of sexual misconduct attributed to him.

The allegations gained wide international attention after the complainant, identified only as Sara, gave her testimony publicly in a recent media interview.

According to her, Khan's repeated inappropriate behavior eventually led to physical assault, adding that the significant power imbalance between them made genuine consent impossible.

Karim Khan has repeatedly denied the allegations, while his legal team urged ICC member states not to remove him, arguing that he was not given a fair chance to defend himself during disciplinary proceedings.

His lawyers also warned that dismissing the prosecutor without adequate legal safeguards could undermine the independence of ICC prosecutors in the future.
