Blind Egyptian works in construction led by his son.. story that shook social media
In a human scene that received widespread interaction on social media platforms in Egypt, a video documented a blind man working to carry construction materials inside a construction site, while his young son leads him among piles of cement and rubble, an image that garnered great sympathy among Egyptians.
In an exclusive interview with Al-Arabiya.net and Al-Hadath.net, the story's hero, Ayman Saad Abdel Hamid (50 years old), a resident of Giza Governorate, recounted the details of his journey with vision loss and hard work.
Ayman said he worked as a driver for years, before being involved in an accident about ten years ago that completely blinded him, radically changing his life.
He explained that, despite the difficulty of the experience, he refused to surrender or rely on others, and decided to seek any work that would provide for the needs of his family, consisting of his wife and four children.
He added that his children's responsibility was the biggest motivation to continue, stressing that work for him is the way to maintain his dignity and secure a livelihood for his family.
"Seif" does not work... but leads his father
Regarding the video that went viral, Ayman explained that the clip was filmed some time ago while he was working at a construction site in the Zamalek area of Cairo, where he has been working for daily wages for over six years, carrying cement bags, bricks, and doing digging and demolition work.
He denied rumors that his young son "Seif" was employed in these works, stressing that the child does not work at the construction site, but sometimes accompanies him to be his guide, helping him walk among the equipment and rubble and avoid falling, without participating in carrying construction materials.
He said: "My son is my eye through which I see the path; he only guides me, but he does not work with me nor carry anything."
He added that the nature of his work drains a lot of physical effort, and becomes more difficult with his loss of sight, but he prefers to endure hardship over extending his hand to others or asking for help.
A simple wish
Ayman pointed out that all he wishes for is to get a job opportunity that suits his health condition, or a steady source of income to help him provide a decent life for his family and enable his children to continue their education.
He affirmed that the wave of sympathy following the video's spread gave his family new hope, expressing gratitude to everyone who supported him or prayed for him, hoping that these messages would be the beginning of changing his reality for the better.
