British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper called on the Rapid Support Forces to halt their attack on the city of Al-Obeid, stressing that civilians in Sudan have already suffered 'the worst atrocities,' as she put it.

In a post on platform X, Cooper said that the United Kingdom has called for a discussion session at the UN Human Rights Council, warning that hundreds of thousands of lives are at stake. The British Foreign Secretary stressed the need for the international community not to turn its back on the crisis in Sudan, calling for international action to address the deteriorating humanitarian situation there.

In April 2023, violent and large-scale clashes broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in various parts of Sudan. Arab, African, and international parties mediated a ceasefire, but these mediations have not succeeded in reaching a permanent ceasefire.
