Bulgaria Condemns Houthi Militia Threats, Affirms Firm Stand with Kingdom

The Republic of Bulgaria condemned the recent threats made by the Houthi militia against commercial navigation in the Red Sea, affirming its firm stand alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "The announcement of an intention to impose a naval blockade on the Bab el-Mandeb Strait represents an unacceptable escalation, as it entails grave risks of expanding the conflict, threatening regional security, international trade, and the global economy." It stressed the need to ensure and respect freedom of navigation, including in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, without exception and in full accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

It called for the utmost restraint and immediate de-escalation, urging all parties to refrain from any actions that could further endanger maritime security or expand the conflict in the region.
