Catrion and Ekram Celebrate Renewal of Partnership After Distributing 11 Million Food Items
Catrion Catering Holding Company and Ekram Food Bank Association celebrated the renewal of their strategic partnership, revealing that the volume of food donations exceeded 11 million food items over the past two years, through more than 4,000 distribution operations, benefiting more than 9 million people in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The partnership began in Jeddah, before expanding to include Riyadh, Dammam, and Medina, within an integrated system for recovering unused edible food, verifying its safety according to the highest food safety standards, and then redistributing it in a safe and organized manner.
Engineer Ziad Al-Harbi, Executive Director of Environment, Social Responsibility, and Governance at Catrion, said: 'The sustainability of this partnership embodies an extension of success achieved on the ground since its launch, and we view it as a practical model that combines environmental sustainability, enhancing food security, and serving the community, translating the company's commitment to ESG principles into tangible results.'
For his part, Dr. Ahmed bin Harbi Al-Mutrifi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ekram Food Bank Association, affirmed that this partnership 'opened wide horizons to expand the association's impact in serving diverse segments of society, embodying the value of institutional partnerships in creating sustainable development impact,' noting that it reflects the rapid growth of the non-profit sector and its pivotal role in achieving development.
Areas of cooperation include implementing social initiatives during Ramadan and the Hajj season, involving providing meals to fasting individuals at the Grand Mosque, extending to Medina to serve visitors of the Prophet's Mosque, as well as reaching needy families and implementing women's empowerment and skills development programs.
The partnership's efforts culminated in winning the Gulf Sustainability Award for Best Social Initiative of 2025, in recognition of its tangible results in serving the community and reducing food waste, supporting the goals of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
