China affirmed on Wednesday that 'reigniting' war between Washington and Tehran is in no one's interest, following US strikes that hit dozens of targets in Iran and Tehran's announcement of bombing US bases in the region.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in a press conference: 'Reigniting war does not serve the interests of either side. Military means cannot solve fundamental problems,' adding: 'We call on the United States and Iran to implement the signed memorandum of understanding, resolve their differences through dialogue and negotiation, and avoid resorting to force,' according to Agence France-Presse.

The US Central Command announced yesterday (Tuesday) that its forces launched a series of attacks on Iran, adding that the strikes were in response to what it said were Iranian attacks targeting three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. For its part, Iran's Supreme Joint Military Command said that the US military targeted parts of southern Iran in 'blatant aggression,' and affirmed that its armed forces will deliver an 'overwhelming response' to the US attacks.
