Caracas, July 13 (QNA) - Venezuelan authorities announced that the death toll from the two earthquakes that struck the country on June 24 has risen to 4,490.

Jorge Rodríguez, president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, said via the Telegram app that the number of injured exceeded 16,740, while rescue teams had pulled 6,462 survivors from the rubble as of yesterday, Saturday.

The toll announced yesterday, Saturday, had indicated 4,333 deaths.

Search and rescue operations continue with the participation of 31,837 emergency personnel, more than 30,000 volunteers, and 2,422 foreign rescue workers who are helping to clear debris and provide support to those affected.

Two earthquakes struck, one measuring 7.2 magnitude and the second 7.5 magnitude, 39 seconds apart, particularly affecting northern Venezuela.

It is worth noting that the authorities in Caracas had listed thousands of people as missing due to the collapse of entire high-rise residential complexes, which turned into rubble in a matter of seconds.
