Yesterday, Earth reached aphelion, the farthest point in its orbit around the Sun, at 8:30 PM Mecca Time, with the distance between them about 152 million kilometers, in an annual astronomical phenomenon confirming that the succession of seasons is not related to the Earth's distance from the Sun, but rather to the tilt of its rotation axis.

The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, engineer Majed Abu Zahira, said that Earth reaching this point does not mean a drop in temperatures, as the succession of seasons is not related to the Earth's distance or proximity to the Sun, but rather to the tilt of the Earth's axis by about 23.4 degrees, which makes the Northern Hemisphere receive sunlight at a larger angle during summer. He added that the Earth's orbit is elliptical, so the distance between it and the Sun changes by about 5 million kilometers over the year, and the Sun appears slightly smaller at aphelion compared to perihelion, but this difference is not noticeable to the naked eye.
