Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney discussed bilateral relations and regional and international issues.

This came during a phone call on Saturday, according to a statement from the Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications, via the Turkish platform 'In Social'.

Erdogan stated that his country is working to elevate relations with Canada to a higher level in many areas, foremost among them trade, security, defense industry, and energy.

President Erdogan expressed his hope that the NATO leaders' summit to be held in Ankara will contribute to strengthening cooperation among allies.

Erdogan also congratulated the Canadian prime minister on Canada Day, which falls on July 1.
