Guterres calls on Americans and Iranians to return to negotiating table
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on the American and Iranian sides to exercise maximum restraint and urgently return to the negotiating table. The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, said in a statement carried by Al Arabiya that Guterres is extremely concerned about the major escalation and resumption of military confrontations in the Gulf, calling on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and urgently resume negotiations to avoid widening the conflict. Guterres stressed that a return to large-scale hostilities would have dire consequences for the peoples of the region, for international peace and security, and for the global economy.
New wave of strikes The US military announced Sunday evening it had begun a new wave of strikes against Iran, saying it aims to undermine Tehran's ability to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command said in a statement that its forces began at 21:00 GMT to launch further strikes against Iran to continue undermining its ability to attack civilian sailors and commercial vessels freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz. It added that Trump ordered these strikes to hold Iranian forces accountable.
Explosions in multiple locations Al Arabiya quoted Iranian media as saying an explosion occurred in Shahbandar in Hormozgan province. It also noted explosions were heard in Bushehr province, as well as explosions in Qeshm and Jask. Additionally, several explosions were heard in Sirik and Bandar Abbas.
