Gaza - SPA: Arabs and Peoples of the Middle East
Hamas announced the dissolution of its government in Gaza and the completion of preparations to transfer administrative tasks to the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of the Gaza Strip.
The Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail al-Thawabta, said during a press conference that the head of the Government Work Follow-up Committee (the "Hamas government"), Muhammad al-Farra, and the head of the Government Emergency Committee in Gaza, officially resigned from their positions, paving the way for the handover of power to the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.
He explained that it was decided to consider the current heads of government institutions as an "interim body", indicating that all employees working in the government will work under the responsibility of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza.
The Media Office stated that this step comes in the context of transferring the administration of governance in the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, and as a new response to the supreme interests of our Palestinian people, and in an effort to alleviate the severe suffering of citizens due to the continuation of genocide, the delay in reconstruction, the continuation of the siege and closure of crossings, and the failure of the Israeli occupation to withdraw from the Strip.
Since the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel took effect in Gaza last October, Hamas has repeatedly affirmed its readiness to step down from managing the sector's affairs and hand them over to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, which includes independent, competent individuals.
