The property where Adolf Hitler was born near the Austrian-German border has been converted into a police station.

This step comes as part of ongoing efforts to address the complex legacy of the World War II era and sites associated with symbols of the Nazi regime.

The Austrian government hopes this measure will prevent the building from becoming a shrine for neo-Nazis. But some members of the most prominent Holocaust survivor group in Austria warn that it could falsify history.

For her part, German tourist Evita Rossi, from Nuremberg, explained: 'I think it's great to turn this house into a police station, and I hope its façade does not mention that it is Hitler's birthplace. There is no need to attract admirers.'
