Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that the United States violated the memorandum of understanding between the two countries, and denied claims that Iran had requested negotiations with the United States.

Baghaei added in remarks to Iran's official TV on Friday evening that the claims about Iran submitting a request to negotiate with the United States are baseless.

U.S. President Donald Trump recently stated that Iran had submitted a request to negotiate with the United States.

Baghaei pointed out that Iran's policy is still based on the principle of 'commitment for commitment,' affirming that any US breach of pledges will be met with a similar response from Iran.

He added: 'We have not submitted any request for negotiations with the United States, but based on our usual responsible approach, we did not reject a request by one of the regional mediators to visit Iran to discuss the latest developments.'

He explained that the visit took place on Friday in the city of Mashhad, and continued: 'We conveyed our viewpoint to the Qatari side,' while no official statement was issued by Qatar regarding the visit.

He noted that the US Treasury Department's cancellation of the license to sell Iranian oil constitutes a clear violation of Article 9 of the memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi affirmed in a post on the American company X platform on Saturday that the United States violated its obligations stipulated in the memorandum of understanding, calling for 'mutual commitment' between the two sides.

Araghchi added: 'Iran has fulfilled its obligations, contrary to what the so-called US Treasury Secretary did, who violated Paragraph 9 of the memorandum of understanding.'

On Thursday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the execution of strikes targeting about 90 Iranian military sites, including air defense systems, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities and logistical infrastructure on the Iranian coast.

In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced targeting US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, warning of expanding the scope of its attacks if the US strikes continue.

The Gulf region has been witnessing rising tensions since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28.

Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran on June 18, negotiations between them continue under the mediation of Qatar and Pakistan to reach a final agreement.
