Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, said that Tehran will not consider itself bound to implement its commitments under the Islamabad memorandum if the United States continues to violate its commitments under it.

During a speech to journalists in New York on Friday, Iravani considered that the Council's meeting on UN Security Council Resolution 2231, issued in 2015 to support the nuclear deal, lacks a legal basis, stressing that the resolution expired on October 18, 2025.

He added that any attempt to reactivate the 'snapback' mechanism of sanctions against Iran is illegal, accusing the United States, France, and Britain of exploiting the Security Council for political goals.

Iravani accused Washington, France, and Britain of violating their commitments under the nuclear deal, stressing that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

He held the United States responsible for violating the memorandum through the recent attacks on Iran.

He concluded by saying that Iran remains committed to implementing the memorandum in good faith, but will not comply with it if the United States continues to violate its commitments.

On Thursday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the execution of strikes targeting about 90 Iranian military sites, including air defense systems, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and logistical infrastructure on the Iranian coast.

In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced targeting US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan, warning of expanding the scope of its attacks if US strikes continue.

The Gulf region has been witnessing escalating tension since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran on February 28 last.

Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding by Washington and Tehran on June 18 last, negotiations between them continue with the mediation of Qatar and Pakistan to reach a final agreement.
