(CNN)-- Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed to Iranian media on Wednesday that Iran will continue to respond 'firmly' to US strikes and does not intend to negotiate.

Baghaei told journalists in front of a memorial in Tehran for the son-in-law of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to a video broadcast by Iran's SNN channel: 'We currently have no plans to negotiate, and we are focusing our efforts on defending the homeland.'

Baghaei added that Iran will not adhere to any agreement if 'the United States violates its commitments.'

He continued: 'This is a principle, and we will continue to adhere to it,' noting that Iran believes the United States has ignored the ceasefire since its inception.

Shortly after SNN channel published the spokesman's remarks, the semi-official Mehr News Agency reported that the United States bombed Iran's Hengam Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
