Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced on Monday that the only way to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation is for the US military to stop its interference in the strait and respect the sovereignty of littoral states over their territorial waters.
It warned that continued US interference in the Strait of Hormuz could lead to larger developments affecting global oil and natural gas markets, according to what Iran's Fars news agency reported from a Revolutionary Guards statement.
The statement said that the Revolutionary Guards targeted last night facilities and infrastructure belonging to the US military in the al-Jufair area in Bahrain, in response to US attacks on Iranian territory.
It added that it also targeted an FPS long-range air defense radar in Oman, and another radar for detecting naval targets.
Saturday/Sunday night saw mutual strikes between Washington and Tehran, as Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation until further notice.
The Strait of Hormuz region is witnessing security tensions against the backdrop of the war launched by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, 2026.
Washington and Tehran had signed, last June, a memorandum of understanding that included a ceasefire, following Qatari and Pakistani mediation, paving the way for a final agreement to end the war, before US President Donald Trump announced on July 8 that the ceasefire had ended against the backdrop of renewed escalation.
