Is Trump afraid of the impact of war with Iran on the midterm elections?
(CNN)-- US President Donald Trump downplayed the impact of the upcoming midterm elections and renewed tensions with Iran on his decisions.
When asked whether he believes Tehran is trying to influence the midterm elections by threatening access to the Strait of Hormuz, Trump told reporters: 'That wouldn't have any effect on me. I'll just do what's right.'
He added: 'I don't look at it from the perspective of "Oh my God, we have an election in a certain period of time"... No, the elections - I can't think that has anything to do with it.'
The president continued, saying that 'people are very impressed' with his foreign projects, and he spoke at length about his operation in Venezuela earlier this year.
