The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, chaired the UN General Assembly session dedicated to considering the reopening of the agenda item titled: 'Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba'.

The session was held at the UN headquarters in New York at the official request of the Permanent Mission of Cuba. It attracted significant attention and high attendance, including the participation of several ministers. The session witnessed a vote on the proposal to hold additional discussion, which was adopted by the General Assembly with a majority of 136 votes in favor, 9 against, and 30 abstentions. Subsequently, the floor was opened for discussion, with over 50 countries participating.
