Body language of Ahmed al-Shar'a in meeting with Trump and what the latter said about the interim Syrian president gains traction
(CNN)—Interaction continues over the meeting that brought together US President Donald Trump and interim Syrian President Ahmed al-Shar'a over the past two days, on the sidelines of the NATO summit.
Activists highlighted the body language of the interim Syrian president as he listened to Trump through an interpreter sitting next to him. A user named Ahmed Abdel Hamid al-Ghantawi commented: 'President Ahmed al-Shar'a's look says, "Don't joke again." It embodies firm body language, with stern facial expressions conveying implicit messages that set a definitive limit to any transgression or leniency, imposing the authority of the office without needing to speak.'
Activists also highlighted what Trump said about al-Shar'a and his reaction if he had visited New York a year and a half ago. A user named Ibrahim wrote: 'Trump: If Ahmed al-Shar'a had visited Washington a year and a half ago, he would have feared for his life. Although he was not used to fearing for his life before. I'm joking, he comes from a very harsh environment, so I don't think Washington would worry him much.'
Activists also shed light on how the US president described al-Shar'a. A user named Muhammad MFU wrote: 'Trump on Syrian President Ahmed al-Shar'a: He has done a very great job as president, he united the country in a very short time. From the beginning, the situation was very chaotic, and the country was suffering from division and fragmentation, but he succeeded in uniting it.. He is a strong person and a great leader, and he is respected by everyone, including me, and we are proud to have him with us.'
