Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, in a Telegram post coinciding with the 250th anniversary of US independence, attacked what he described as Washington's attempts to impose its will on other countries, questioning whether it remains a role model or an 'evil empire,' and asserting that every country has the right to self-determination.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, on Sunday directed sharp criticism at the United States, stating that it 'has no right to impose its will on others,' in a post published on the Telegram app on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of US independence.

Medvedev questioned whether the United States, two and a half centuries after its founding, should be considered 'a role model or an evil empire,' but he answered that it is neither, adding: 'What the majority of the world's countries agree on is that America has no right to make decisions on behalf of others.'

The Russian official called on the United States to 'first put its own house in order,' stressing that 'every country, small or large, is capable of solving its own problems.'

Medvedev served as President of Russia between 2008 and 2012 before assuming his current position as Deputy Chairman of the Security Council. Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in 2022, he has become known for his hardline stances and repeated warnings directed at Western countries supporting Kyiv.
