Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called for the 'full truth' behind the death of Moroccan Abderrahim Fakir during a security arrest on Sunday in the city of Bologna in northern Italy, an incident that sparked a wave of anger and condemnation.

Meloni stressed in a post on X that 'it is necessary to determine possible responsibilities with the utmost precision regarding the death of Abderrahim Fakir. The full truth must be reached, without prejudice or leniency towards any party,' according to the French Press Agency.

Authorities opened an investigation on Monday into the death of the 42-year-old man, who had lived in Italy since the age of five, after he was pinned face down for several minutes, with his hands and feet bound and his face pressed against the asphalt.

The investigation includes the two officers who carried out the arrest, as well as four paramedics who were present at the scene.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor in Bologna ordered an autopsy of the body, and will also analyze recordings from the two cameras that were attached to the officers' bodies during the arrest.

A local resident had published images showing Abderrahim repeatedly shouting 'Help!' as the two officers pinned him to the ground in the presence of several paramedics.

On the other hand, police said they intervened after receiving reports from some residents about a man in a state of extreme anger.

Following the incident, local media reported that thousands of people took to the streets on Monday evening to participate in a demonstration in central Bologna.

The demonstration saw clashes with security forces that resulted in at least 11 injuries, according to the same sources.

Meanwhile, Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi called for waiting for the investigation results, stressing in a statement to the newspaper 'Il Messaggero' that 'no one is above the law.'
