New International Achievement: Adoption of a Food Standard for Ma'amoul by the Codex Alimentarius Commission
The Codex Alimentarius Commission, in its 49th session in Geneva, adopted a food standard for the Ma'amoul product, which the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, led the preparation work for within the Coordinating Committee for the Codex Alimentarius for the Near East.
The adoption of the standard contributes to unifying the technical requirements for the Ma'amoul product and supports the access of high-quality national products to regional and international markets, especially since the Kingdom is considered one of the leading producing countries for it, as it is one of the products that support the date processing industries.

This adoption comes as an extension of the Kingdom's participation, represented by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, in the development of regional and international food standards and the unification of their technical requirements, thereby enhancing the safety of food products, facilitating their trade, and supporting the Authority's objectives in consumer protection. It is noteworthy that the Kingdom previously participated in chairing the international working group responsible for preparing the first international standard for fresh dates, and has held the position of Vice-Chair of the Codex Alimentarius Commission since 2024.
