The official Pentagon website recorded a decrease in the number of American dead during the war with Iran, as the number dropped from 18 to 14 soldiers.

This adjustment in figures comes amid ongoing debate over human losses in the conflict between the two countries.

The New York Times reported on Friday that casualty figures on the Pentagon website had changed during the war.

The newspaper quoted three anonymous military officials and a Pentagon spokesman giving conflicting statements about the reasons for reducing the number from 18 to 14.

Military officials claimed that one reason for the change is that the administration of US President Donald Trump decided to remove the names of four soldiers from the list, considering that they died "after Trump's announcement of a ceasefire."

Acting Pentagon spokesman Joel Valdes attributed the change to 'temporary data glitches,' confirming that they would be corrected soon.

On July 21, Trump announced that the number of US soldiers killed in the war had reached 18.

The conflicting statements point to ambiguity surrounding the management of military information in wartime. This change raises questions about the transparency of the Pentagon in releasing casualty data. President Trump announced on July 21 that the death toll was 18, but the website later adjusted it. Investigations into the reasons for this discrepancy are expected to continue.
