Paris opens three swimming sites on the Seine for summer season
Three free, supervised swimming sites on the Seine in Paris, created for the 2024 Olympic Games, reopened Saturday to large crowds of residents and tourists amid intense heat.
Visitors swam, chatted, or climbed onto the docks to sunbathe on the first day of the sites' opening. Swimmers are required to wear yellow buoys to avoid currents.
American tourist Benjamin Duncan said, 'Look at this water and the Eiffel Tower behind you... What a beautiful sight!'
These three sites, where swimming had been banned for nearly a century and was allowed again after the 2024 Olympic Games, attracted about 100,000 visitors last year.
They are located in the east, west, and center of the capital and remain free until late August.
Water quality, which changes with weather conditions, is tested several times a day and reported to visitors using a system of green, orange, and red flags.
Pierre Abou Krat, who works for the city hall of the 15th arrondissement, said, 'I was a bit hesitant, but tests are carried out daily. I stay vigilant.'
